Event Horizons, 2016

Installed at the Indiana State Museum, Indianapolis, Indiana
Dimensions: 15ft x 60ft x 20ft
Media: Donated CD and DVD discs, Monofilament, Cable ties, Ratchet tie down straps, metal, wood, hardware, and LED lights.

Installed at the Indiana State Museum in Indianapolis, this public art, site-specific installation was commissioned by the museum. The interior lights were computer controlled RGBW LED set to go through over 300 colors in 8-minutes with all 5 vortexes changing simultaneously.  The shift is slow enough that at a causal pace, the color does not seem to change while a short pause or slower pace allowed one to recognize the change which affected the entire experience and made the depth of the vortices more mysterious.

This public art installation is part of the exhibition titled, 200 Years of Indiana Art: A Cultural Legacy.  This exhibition features original works of art spanning the state’s 200 year history including contemporary.  For this exhibition, I designed and created a site-specific installation for the Indiana State Museum entryway comprised of 12,000 used CD’s and DVD’s with color changing LED lights. Titled Event Horizons, this installation covers 15 ft H x 60 ft L west wall on the first floor.
