The Last Sky: Thermals and Thresholds
Exhibition Dates: December 14, 2024 - January 25, 2025
Reception: December 14, 2024, 6-8pm
I'm honored to be one the Texas Biennial 2024 Artists!
Thank you to biennial co-curators Erika Mei Chua Holum, Ashley DeHoyos Sauder, and Coka Treviño for combining their expertise, insight, and vision as they coordinated thirteen exhibitions across five months in multiple cities. The series of exhibitions has been titled The Last Sky.
The Last Sky Texas is a constructed territory, therefore unstable borders and occupations shape communities and their participants. Systems and structures rise and fall. The collapse produces dust and dirt, yielding material histories written in detritus and debris. In its eighth iteration, the 2024 Texas Biennial, The Last Sky, looks to the still-lingering dust to ask: What happens after the last line in the sand is drawn?
My artwork is included in the final exhibition of the biennial:

The final exhibition of the biennial "The Last Sky: Thermals and Thresholds," explores the dynamic forces that shape us, drawing from the phenomena of rising thermals and shifting thresholds to frame reflections on human, ecological, and social interdependence. Texas Biennial artists delve into the invisible currents that connect us-those atmospheric and metaphorical forces that propel change, mark boundaries, and create spaces for transformation.
Of the 80 Texas Biennial artists, the artists, the final exhibition of the biennial "The Last Sky: Thermals and Thresholds" features: Leticia R. Bajuyo, Emilio Carrera Quiroga, Roslyn Dupré, Veronica Ibargüengoitia, Alie Jackson, Alejandro Macias, Lovie Olivia, Immanuel Oni, Jerónimo Reyes-Retana, Colleen Maynard & Mark Chen. Big Medium in partnership with Blaffer Art Museum and DiverseWorks, are pleased to present The Last Sky, the central title for the various exhibitions and programming encompassing the 2024 Texas Biennial.
The Texas Biennial is a geographically-led, independent survey of contemporary art in Texas. The program was founded in 2005 by Austin nonprofit Big Medium to provide an exhibition opportunity open to all artists living and working in the state. The eighth edition of this program will take place in 2024, making the Texas Biennial the longest-running state biennial in the country. Since its inception, the program has brought the work of over 300 artists to new audiences, springboarding many artists’ careers and underscoring the diversity of contemporary practice in Texas.
